It's really not hard, I promise. Read up and it'll help out a lot.
Registration
Right now there's a limit of one canon character max per person, but you can have any number of original charries you like. You just have to try really hard to keep them active and distinct.
Keep characters separate. One character per account; don't mix them, please. If you're having trouble posting as 2 people at the same time, download Mozilla and use it in conjuction with Internet Explorer, or just post as one person at a time.
Make sure you know you can handle more than one charrie if you're going to apply for more than one.
Applying for a Character
Only one canon charrie per person, please. Apply for them by filling out the survey posted in the canon forum and someone will come by, read it and accept or offer constructive criticism.
OCs apply the same way as canon charries, but you can have as many as you feel you can handle.
If you find yourself unable to play a charrie (canon or original), please resign gracefully. Don't make me come find you.
General Stuff
If you plan on discussing this week's House ep, make sure you clearly label the date it aired so peeps will know which threads to visit. It's a spoiler issue.
If you think we are missing a vital area of PPTH, PM me and I'll create a board for it.
Posting
Be respectful of your mod(s) and your fellow players. You've heard the phrase 'If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all.' Put it to good use please.
No spamming.
No netspeak. It hurts the eyes and the head. If you're typing in all caps, your character is yelling and should have a really good reason to be doing so.
No double posting; edit your post if you need to add something else.
Please try and post in the appropriate boards. Yeah, mistakes happen, but keep up on them if you can. Threads posted in wrong forum will be moved. Repeated mistakes with no effort to fix them earn a banning.
When speaking out of character (yeah, it happens) try to remember to put your comment in brackets of some kind and have the comment preceded by OOC:.
If you're going to be gone for a long period of time, please, please, PLEASE post in the LOA board. It's there for just such a purpose, you see.
When you post a thread, remember to say where it fits in the timeline, please. Take a quick look in the summary and figure out where you want it to fit. Then put in your thread title "Title of New Thread (After Betting on Life)". This'll help not confuse fellow players and help the maintaining of the summary. It can be after, before, or concurrent with (at the same time) any thread, it doesn't matter so long as you label it as such.
Advertising
You may link to your site/board on your sig or profile.
If you want to pimp your site, post it in the Players forum in your own thread. If you want to affiliate, PM me with a banner (only 175 x 50 pixels) and I'll send you The Duckling Herder banner.
Images/Bandwidth
The universal golden rule, don't hotlink anything you see here, 'kay?
Don't make lewd avs or sigs. Keep it simple, keep it tasteful.
Right now, there's no real limit on sig size, but try not to make it more than 700 pixels wide, okay? It pains those of us with weenie little 800x600 monitors.
RPG Rules
Try and keep posts above 3 or 4 sentences. We're here because we're writers and we love House. We're a creative bunch.
No killing of characters whatsoever without the express permission of the one who controls them and myself.
Don't take the posts personally. House is naturally a rude and sarcastic character. That doesn't mean that the person who plays him has a vendetta against you. It's play. Fantasy. The more believeable it sounds, the cooler it is. If you really think someone has an issue with you, drop me a line and we'll talk it out, okay?
Until more peeps come online to take up positions as doctors and patients and so forth, unfilled charries will start out as dummies of sorts. Anybody can use/play them as the pop up, but try to keep them to a minimum. If they are filled, but they are abandoned for whatever reason, they are forever flung into the realm of the narrator until someone new picks them up.
Narrators play characters for people who are on leave for an extended period of time or people who leave the board for good. They advance the story line and are hand picked by me. I'll try not to abuse the power.
If there is a need for scenes or plot development that is rated R or up, I can make a board for it, but for now, I don't see it being a commodity. Please try to keep things relatively mild. Nothing you couldn't imagine being on House in the first place.
Swearing is okay for now, just keep it in character. If it gets out of hand, something might need to be done, but I hope not.
Have fun, my friends.
Helpful Stuff
Communication, communication, communication. I can't stress enough how important communication is to an RP. Get to know your fellow players and find out their plans for their charries. Play off each other.
If you're really bumming on a canon character, it never hurts to rewatch the series.
If you notice there are some people not getting to post as often as yourself, try and give everybody a chance. Try and let posting cycle through everyone that's summoned in a thread before posting again. I understand it's not possible all the time, but it generally makes for better relations that way.
Plot board. Use it. It's your friend and gets everyone active.
Suggestion board. Use it. It's your friend and lets me make a better site.
That's all for now. It may or may not change in the future, depending on the vibes I get. If you need to contact me, you can PM me or try email or a messenger.
