ooc: And even the walls have ears... Kai, remember the conversation we had about Krys getting hurt and we weren't sure by whom? Well, I think it will be her own boss Wilson. *grin* This is only one post in the thread, no more than that, 'cause I feel like she's everywhere. But I thought this was a good oportunity to break her before it went too far.

bic: Krystina held a small one inch binder to her chest in a school-girl style like way. In her right hand was the bottle of pills from the pharmacy Wilson had sent her for. -Leblanc was on her way to drop of the pills before going back to meet up with Jack and his patient. Why carry around the medicine when she could drop it off?- She seemed to be in a pretty happy mood, but somewhat less so than earlier this morning. Her hair was tied back just above the base of her head. Only a few strands on her left side were hanging down and she was looking away from House's office as she passed. She hadn't known he was in there, or Wilson.

She'd been walking slow, but slowed even more so when she heard Wilson's voice. Looking to the window she saw his back and then Doctor House sitting. "Fluffy pink pit bull. She's insistent on bringing in paint samples. Everything from Burnt Sunflower to Fresh Dandelion. I finally sent her to the pharmacy to get some peace."

At that her eyes lost color, and she stopped smiling. In fact, she looked like she was about to cry, but swallowed hard. Okay, so she was a little strong with things, and sometimes didn't think things through but... a pit bull? Looking at House, she pointed at Wilson and then held her index finger over her lips in a "please don't tell him I was here" way. After that she gave him a weak wave with a wiggle of her fingers, then walked off quickly towards Wilson's office. She had paint samples to throw out.

It took a moment for House to register that someone had entered his office without his express permission. The babbling was an indication of who it was, but it didn't make him care any more. James was probably feeling guilty and needed to hash out his feelings. It was really inconvenient.

It was especially evident when he finally pried an eye open and saw Wilson's "grumpy" face and Krystina's "mortified beyond belief, what the hell was I doing here eavesdropping on my mentor who clearly doesn't appreciate my overabundant energy" face. Girls were always the more complicated sex, and this clinched it even further. When he saw her motion for his silence, he was almost tempted to sigh and shake his head. But that would have been a blatant disregard for the silence bestowed upon upon him, and House was mean, but not CRUEL. He reserved that for stupid dying people.

"You know, most people are grateful to receive my advice. Pay good money for it, incidentally," he drawled, giving Wilson his attention. "The fact that I said your office is a dungeon without charging you is actually quite an honour. Now you want me to take it back, act as if I didn't say anything at all? I think that's a little mean spirited. Should I start putting a tip jar on my desk every time you get a free consult?"

House slid a mug across the desk to have it settle before his friend. It wasn't a smile gracing his features, but there was a distinct glint of black humour. "I'd tell you what I thought about Grace, but I really don't want to have another one of these chats while I'm in my happy place. Someone might get hurt. If I thought you meant it, well...I guess that'd be different wouldn't it?" His eyes flicked towards the mug before refixing on Wilson's dour expression.

Wilson glanced at the so-called "tip jar" and rolled his eyes. "Ah, right, your happy place. How terribly inconsiderate of me to intrude upon that. Although it is difficult to tell your 'happy place' apart from your 'concentrating on a differential diagnosis place' or your 'trying to avoid clinic duty place' or your 'maybe I should break up Stacy's marriage place'. And since when has fear of hurting my feelings ever kept you from being anything but blatantly honest with me?"

He raised his hands in apology. "I know that I made a mistake. I'm trying to reconcile that. I'm not a saint, House, and neither are you. But for the sake of my assistant, I think we should at least maintain some illusion of professional courtesy. You've got the Ducklings to mold into your image, anyway. Why don't we let Krystina actually grow up to be a compassionate, caring doctor who listens to her patients rather than shun them?"

You know, in some cultures it's considered almost rude for one friend to spy on another. Of course, in Swedish the word "friend" can also be translated as "limping twerp".

He shrugged. "Happy place, avoiding clinic duty place...tomayto, tomahto."

House paused. It was debatable whether or not he was reminiscing on a happier time or whether he just liked to make Jimmy wait on important, potentially life-changing answers. He didn't exactly think Wilson was going to believe the former. He wasn't about to give Jimmy an affirmative answer on either front.

"Did you know that St. Gregory was also great? Not just great, but with a capitol G. Gregory the Great. I mean, sure it's St. James the Greater, but that's because there was some loser apostle named James. Doesn't count." House smirked. "Your Chickie should have a proper role model. With a capital G. Actually, she should grow up first, but what do I know?"

Wilson sighed. "Krystina is young and eager to impress. It's refreshing...in moderation. I'm sure you can't remember a time when you were like that. No doubt you came out of the womb cynical and embittered.

"And anyway, there's more than one path to greatness, House. Don't flatter yourself that yours is the only valid choice for every man, woman and child to follow. We're human, we make mistakes, we learn from them. And every now and again, some other human finds it in his heart to help us along the way. I'm just asking that you make some effort to be supportive of Miss LeBlanc." He glanced into the conference room to see the blonde Australian sitting idly at the table. "And give Chase something to do. He gets mopey if you're not being condescending to him."

Wilson turned on his heel to exit the office. "No more decorating advice. I mean it. If my Vertigo poster goes missing, I know where you live," he called over his shoulder.

"If course I was cynical and embittered. As if there was any other way," House scoffed. "As long as she doesn't come bouncing in looking for the odd piece of positive reinforcement..." He paused for a lengthy eyeroll. "I'll attempt to tolerate her. It's amazing what a building-length means to a relationship."

He got heavily to his feet, still deeply mired in the fog that was Vicoin bliss. Somewhere in his mind, he knew that he was probably going to be meeting the wombat very shortly. Wilson also had to have better things to do. "You know, I could clear some time on my list, be even further condescending. Maybe contact the Chicky, tell her to wallpaper your office with Sleepless in Seattle posters." House paused with a small frown. "Wait...you liked that movie, didn't you? Better make it Mad Max."
