"Cuddy, that isn't-I..." She trailed off and sent a glare in House's direction. She shook her head and turned back to Cuddy. "You can't be serious. You can't, that's just not-I-a-" she stuttered looking at House helplessly. She knew it would be useless, but she couldn't help it. It was Cuddy's birthday for crying out loud!

"Dr. Cameron," Cuddy turned towards the younger woman with an amused stare. "Thank you for the card. I'm glad at least someone remembered." She turned back to House. "As for you....either take the 5% or there's no deal. Dr. Cameron's even though she's less than articulate right now is correct. I shouldn't have to worry about blackmail on <i>my</i> birthday." she stretched the "my" for emphasis, knowing that on any other day House would try anyways.

House repocketed the camera with a smug look. "I would have done it for the rest of the day off Clinic. Too bad."
When his hand disappeared into his pocket, he didn't immediately remove it again. He was rumaging through the plastic Vicodin bottle and the camera to find something else. A small folded note he had scribbled before he came. House was never one for ceremony.
"So we're free to not do Clinic? Can I inform Chase? I'm sure he'll be thrilled to fill in for me."

Cameron gave Cuddy a small almost timid smile and was going to wish her happy birthday yet again when the woman turned to House. Cameron sighed and shot him a dirty look. All he cared about was getting out of clinic duty. Why did that not surprise her?
"Um... I don't mind working the clinic, Dr. Cuddy. I'm sure you don't have any replacements and there's certainly no need for you to fill in, especially on your birthday." She glared at House as she said the last.

"Nah, she wouldn't fill in. She's much too busy running the hospital, keeping me ahead of the malpractice suits..." House paused for a thought. "You think those morons in Psych are good for Clinic? I don't hear much from them anymore. Ever since I denounced their field as a load of...well, you know," he finished coyly.
Aha! He'd found it. Now He just had to shoo Cameron away, wait for Cuddy to turn around in her big fancy chair...

Cuddy pinched the bridge of her nose and tilted her head back to stare at the ceiling.
"House, the people in the psych ward contribute to this hospital in more ways then you ever will." She sighed and shook her head. "They do clinic duty when asked, unlike some, and maybe if that someone did their clinic duty when asked, like a good boy, he would see them there."
She smiled pleasantly. She knew that the people in the psychiatric ward did no such thing as did House, but from the frightfully puzzled look on Cameron's face she knew she had at least fooled someone into believing her.

"Happy birthday, Lisa, I got you a headache," House smirked devilishly. Who said only the birthday person was allowed to have fun?
He turned to Cameron with a critical look. "Don't you have some patients to slather your care and affection on? Daddy's got important business to discuss with Mommy. If you hear any screaming, just block your ears and remember we're doing it for you."

Cameron indeed looked quite puzzled. The Psych staff did clinic duty? How...when...? Her face screwed up in confusion and her mouth opened slightly as if to question this, but before she got a chance, House was being his usual snarky self. When he turned to her, her eyes narrowed a little, but sparing Cuddy an apologetic look, she nodded a little.
"I should...get back to work. I hope your birthday is enjoyable, Dr. Cuddy." She inclined her head and shot House a pleading look before striding out of the room.

When the door clicked shut behind the immunologist, House turned his airy smile back to Cuddy. "I love kids, don't you? It's the macaroni neclaces, I think...something about mouldy Italian food around my neck makes me all fuzzy inside."

Hause paused with a thoughtful look. "I have children now? Where have I been all their tiny little lives? They've probably turned into druggies and pimps..." He gave a helpless shrug. "I wish them the best of luck."
