Chase's lips pulled back into a smile as the two conversed. Though he heard conversations like this one almost every day, it was still funny. He was mostly laughing at Cameron, but it was a silent laugh. That is until House put Chase on the job.
Chase turned to Cameron and was still smiling, pointing at her, but quickly the grin fell to a grimmace. His pointing finger was no longer pointing either, the hand was spread in a "what?" sort of way. He had thought House had put Cameron on the job, not himself.
All the bounce seemed to have been drained from him. No smile, on glittering somehwat happy eyes, no floopy hair. He didn't stand up straight. It was as if, as if his entire self had been deflated like an old tire. This was what was left. A not-so-happy Robert Chase about to go on an expedition to talk with a kid who had an infection or a cold/flu. Lovely.
"Why me?" He asked, but automatically his hand reached out for the file on this Adam kid. Since when do I do these? The Aussie thought in a somewhat miserable way, but at least he had something to do.

"If I had to answer why you're doing it, I wouldn't be department head, would I?" House called cheerfully. Or as cheerfully as House ever got, even when he was mocking someone. He had almost reached the safety of his office and if he hurried, he might miss more of their bickering or whingeing. That was always a plus.
To be perfectly honest, the only time he would be remotely interested in the Aaron kid was if he suddenly, sponataneously started bleeding out of every orifice. It would be slightly disturbing, kinda cool, but very intriguing. House didn't really wish harm on whomever it was, but it would guarantee that House took interest. If the kid didn't bleed out first, of course. Oh well, something to ponder while he received advice from the philosopher Syd Barrett. Something with catchy lyrics...we don't need no education...

Chase sighed and plucked the file from House. Quickly he found Cameron as he turned around to walk off.
"Cameron." The Aussie said in his accent, thick with a sing-song tone. "You know you want to come with me." The file by now was poking her in the arm, once, twice, and then stopped. "Why ask questions when you already did? That would be repetitive."
Thank you captain obvious. Oh well, Chase just hoped Cameron would come. He didn't want to go examine some kid if she had already done the most of it. Please say yes, please say yes. Say yes!

Cuddy stormed out of her office in a huff. Why did he do this to her? She growled at a nurse that looked ready to pounce on her. Four exam rooms! What was he thinking?! She strode determindly towards his office with the single minded goal of screaming at House till he did his job. It shouldn't be up to her to babysit him!
She was almost at his office when, she saw him limping up the corridor. "Dr. House!" she nearly screamed, gritting her teeth. This was beyond annoying, the third time this week!

"He's not here, leave a message after the beep!" House yanked open his glass door and for once, utterly cursed the fact that they'd given him such a flashy and unpractical door. What good was a door if you couldn't slam the thing?
He limped into his office. If Cuddy was angry enough--and she really did seem that way--she'd follow him just to get the satisfaction of chewing his ass. It was probably better to let it happen in his office so he could get comfortable.

Cuddy stopped outside the door seething. He had to have been put on this earth to bring her misery. She yanked open the glass door and strode across the office in five steps.
"FOUR! YOU LEFT FOUR PATIENTS IN THEIR EXAM ROOM! FOUR! COUNTING! And let's not forget the one you didn't even look at!" She breathed heavily through her nose, her eyes flashing angrily at his nonchalent posture. Couldn't he give a damn? Just once? So she wouldn't be the one to deal with his angered patients, parents and other relatives.

Cameron was standing giving House a disproving look when she heard her name. Resisting the urge to groan, she turned face Chase looking at him expectantly. She rolled her eyes at him and snatched the file from his hand. Without a word she strode stiffly towards the clinic not slowing her steps for him to keep up. Oh she knew he would follow.
