 Dr. Madison "Maddie" Fairchild
« Thread Started on Jun 21, 2006, 11:26pm »

First Name: Madison
Last Name: Fairchild
Nickname: Maddie
Age: 31
Height: 5'8''
Build: Light, Dancer's Frame
Eye color: Brown
Hair color and style: Dark reddish brown, down to mid back, straight, usually tied back in a neat ponytail.
Gender: Female
Position: Doctor/Patient
Specialty: Cardiologist
History: At the age of 25, Maddie developed lymphoma of the mesenteric, retroperitoneal and inguinal lymph nodes. After chemo and surgery to remove the tumors, she went into remission, however, the cancer recently returned. She was put under Dr. Wilson's care for the disease since it made a comeback and is fighting while at the same time trying to rise in the ranks as a cardiologist at Princeton-Plainsboro.

Both of Maddie's parents are physicians, but both work at Mercy hospital in Chicago. She's the eldest child in the family and the only one to go into the field of medicine after her parents. She left home in order to finish her studies and train at Princeton-Plainsboro. After she finished school, she took a residency at PPTH and fell in love with it, staying there ever since as part of the Cardiac team.

A woman of business, Maddie is still single, much to her parents' displeasure. She works too much for her own good most of the time and is extremely devoted to her patients. She's got a calm demeanor, a cool countenance and a confidence in her diagnostics. She has moments where she's easily intimidated, but she tries not to let people know that.

Maddie sighed lightly as she flipped through another chart in the dim light of her office. She'd been working through papers for what felt like forever and though she should have been grateful for the peace and quiet, she wished that something would happen. She was feeling tired, weak, no thanks to the disease that was trying to lay claim to her body, and she needed to be doing something to get her adrenaline going so she could get through the last four hours of her shift.

Just as the thoughts milled about in her mind, Maddie's pager went off. She reached for where it hung at the waistline of her skirt and glanced down at it. It was an ER call; just what she'd been waiting for. Standing from her desk, quickly draining the last sip of coffee from her mug before tossing it in the trash, Maddie rushed out the door to her office and headed for the staircase, making her way quickly down to the emergency ward.

She found the room easily, seeing a group of curious bystanders outside, listening to the frantic voices of the code team as they tried to resuscitate their patient. She shooed them away as she walked into the room, looking around at the staff.

"Status report," she ordered.

As a young resident rambled off stats, Maddie donned the required trauma gear. Their patient was an elderly gentleman in what looked like the throes of a heart attack turned full arrest. Taking a moment to mill over the information she'd been given, Maddie stepped up to the gurney and took over CPR from one of the nurses.

"Get me 0.5 of atropine!" She instructed.

She watched the EKG trace on the monitor as she continued, waiting for a blip, anything on the screen to show that their efforts were working. She shook her head, watching as a nurse injected the meds she had ordered. A minute passed and still nothing had happened. She reached for the paddles, having ordered them charged to 360, and watched the older man's body arch off of the table as she shocked him. She shook her head when it didn't work and tried again, and again.

After another ten minutes had passed, nothing had changed. Maddie handed off the paddles and stepped back, brushing a fine sheen of perspiration off of her forehead with the back of her gloved hand. She shook her head and glanced up at the clock over the doorway.

"Time of Death, 19:24," she pronounced.

She stripped off her gloves and tossed them into the trash, turning slowly with a long sigh. As she glanced up and out through the doorway, she noticed a middle aged woman standing there, tears in her eyes, a hand covering her mouth. Maddie knew right away that the woman was their patient's daughter, she bore a striking resemblance to the man. She held the woman's gaze as she approached, feeling her heart break just a little for her. She hated it, being the messenger, but she embraced it at the same time. It was the hardest part of the job but she could do it, and it gave her the confidence to get through yet another day.

Thank you!

Cold and professional is always fun, which is why House is my hero. Maddie's got a bit of a heart though. We can't all be like House... then there'd be no one to harass! :D

And Maddie's got a journal now if she's so inclined to use it. :)
